š Overview
In a move to enhance data privacy, transparency, and taxpayer control, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) is rolling out new security enhancements on the GST portal. These upgrades focus on taxpayers who use third-party Application Suvidha Providers (ASPs) that connect to the GST system via GST Suvidha Providers (GSPs)using authorized APIs.
With rising concerns over data misuse and unauthorized access, these steps will empower taxpayers to better monitor, control, and manage who accesses their GST data.
š Whatās Changing?
1ļøā£ Real-Time Email & SMS Notifications for OTP-Based ASP Access
Whenever a taxpayer grants access to their GST data by sharing OTP with an ASP (who uses a GSP for API connectivity), they will now receive immediate notification through both Email and/or SMS.
Each notification will contain:
- ā Ā Name of the ASP & underlying GSP
- ā°Ā Date & Time of the OTP-based consent
- š Ā Validity period of the consent
š Why this matters:
This ensures that taxpayers are always aware of who is accessing their data and when, minimizing chances of unauthorized use or fraud.
2ļøā£ Dashboard Visibility & Consent Revocation Option
Taxpayers will soon be able to view and manage consents directly from their GST Common Portal Dashboard. This includes:
- š§¾Ā History of past consents granted to ASPs/GSPs
- ā Ā List of currently active data access consents
- āĀ Option to revoke any active accessĀ at will
š Why this matters:
This feature gives full control to the taxpayer, allowing them to monitor historic and current data-sharing and revoke permissions anytime.
šļø When Will These Features Go Live?
GSTN has stated that the exact dates of rollout for these features will be published in upcoming advisories. Taxpayers are advised to stay tuned for notifications on the GST portal.
š” What Should Taxpayers Do Now?
- š²Ā Keep contact details updatedĀ on the GST portal to receive real-time notifications.
- š§ Ā Understand who your ASP/GSP isĀ and ensure you are sharing data only with trusted providers.
- š§¾Ā Regularly review access logsĀ once the dashboard feature is live.
- šØĀ Immediately revokeĀ access if any suspicious activity is noticed.
ā Conclusion
These upcoming enhancements mark a strong step forward in safeguarding taxpayer data, reinforcing trust in the GST ecosystem, and providing greater control and accountability. With increasing reliance on third-party ASPs for compliance filing, these tools will enable a transparent and secure interaction with the GST System.
