The National Informatics Centre (NIC) is pleased to announce the launch of the E-Way Bill 2 Portal (https://ewaybill2.gst.gov.in) on June 1st, 2024. Accessible at https://ewaybillgst.gov.in/, this new portal will operate alongside the existing E-Way Bill system (https://ewaybillgst.gov.in/), enhancing overall system reliability and business continuity for taxpayers and logistics operators.

A Proven Track Record of Success

The E-Way Bill system, implemented nationwide since April 2018, has been a resounding success. With over 480 crore e-way bills generated in the past six years, the system has functioned flawlessly, providing 24/7 service without any downtime. This achievement is further bolstered by the robust Business Continuity Plan (BCP) established in Hyderabad for both the E-Way Bill and E-Invoice1 systems.

Introducing E-Way Bill 2: Enhanced Availability and Seamless Integration

In line with GSTN’s commitment to continuous improvement, the E-Way Bill 2 Portal serves as a parallel system to the existing portal, specifically designed to ensure high availability of e-way bill services.

Taxpayers and logistics operators can leverage their existing login credentials to access the E-Way Bill 2 Portal. The system offers critical functionalities for e-way bill management, including generation, updation of vehicle and transporter details, printing, and cancellation. Additionally, data from the E-Way Bill 2 Portal will be validated, merged, and made available on the primary portal for comprehensive business analysis.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Increased System Redundancy: The E-Way Bill 2 Portal acts as a reliable backup, minimizing disruptions due to unforeseen technical issues with the main portal.
  • Seamless Integration with E-Invoice System: The portal is integrated with additional e-invoice portals, ensuring a smooth e-way bill generation process without impacting e-invoice generation.
  • Independent Functionality: E-Way Bills can be generated and updated directly on the E-Way Bill 2 Portal.
  • Eventual Merger: A seamless integration of E-Way Bill 1 and 2 is planned, ultimately eliminating dependence on the primary system during emergencies.
  • Real-time Synchronization: The E-Way Bill 2 Portal synchronizes e-way bill details with the main portal within seconds.
  • Cross-Functionality: Users can perform critical actions like updating Part-B of e-way bills generated on either portal, offering greater flexibility.

Additional Services and APIs

While the E-Way Bill 2 Portal currently offers core functionalities, users can expect a wider range of services to be incorporated in the near future. Furthermore, taxpayers and logistics operators can access APIs for generating e-way bills, updating vehicle and transporter details, retrieving e-way bill information, and cancellation purposes. Details regarding these APIs can be found on the E-Way Bill sandbox portal.

The launch of the E-Way Bill 2 Portal signifies the NIC’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation within the e-way bill ecosystem. This new portal ensures greater system redundancy, operational flexibility, and business continuity for taxpayers and logistics operators across the nation.
