In response to requests from the business community, we are pleased to inform you that the archived GST return data for July and August 2017 has been temporarily restored on the GST portal. This data was previously archived in accordance with the data archival policy, which mandates the removal of return data older than seven years. We strongly recommend that users download and save any required data before it is archived again, as the archival process will resume following prior notice. This step aims to ensure smooth access to historical returns while complying with the data retention policy.

This advisory from GSTN, dated September 29, 2024, addresses the restoration of GST Returns data on the portal. Here’s a summary of key points:

  • The archival of return data after seven years was initiated as per the data archival policy, implemented on a monthly basis.
  • Return data for July 2017 was archived on August 1, 2024, and for August 2017 on September 1, 2024.
  • Due to requests from businesses facing difficulties, the archived data has now been restored to the portal.
  • Users are advised to download and save the data if needed, as the archival policy will be re-implemented after prior notice.

This advisory serves as a reminder to stakeholders to ensure they secure the required data before it is archived again.

We encourage all taxpayers and businesses to take advantage of this temporary restoration by downloading and securing any necessary GST return data for their records. Please be mindful that the data will be archived again in line with the data archival policy, with advance notice provided before re-implementation. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring compliance with the policy and encourage you to stay updated on any further notifications.
