New Enhancement in GSTR-1: Simplifying HSN Data Entry for Taxpayers Generating E-Invoices

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced a significant enhancement in the GSTR-1 return filing process, aimed at streamlining the reporting of outward supplies. The latest change pertains to the addition of a new option in “Table 12 – HSN wise summary of outward supplies” specifically designed for taxpayers generating e-invoices.

Under this new feature, taxpayers now have the option to import HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) data directly into GSTR-1 from the e-invoices generated. This enhancement is poised to revolutionize the way taxpayers manage their HSN data, offering greater efficiency and accuracy in compliance.

The primary benefit of this new functionality is the automation of HSN data entry for taxpayers who generate e-invoices. Previously, taxpayers had to manually input HSN details for all outward supplies, a process that could be time-consuming and prone to errors. With the option to import HSN data from e-invoices, taxpayers can now significantly reduce the manual effort required for HSN reporting.

Here’s how the new feature works:

  1. Automatic Importation: Taxpayers who generate e-invoices will find it easier to report HSN-wise details in GSTR-1. The system allows for the automatic importation of HSN data from e-invoices into the relevant sections of the return.
  2. Streamlined Data Entry: For HSN codes where e-invoices have been generated, taxpayers no longer need to manually enter the corresponding details in GSTR-1. Instead, the system will populate the HSN-wise summary based on the data available in the e-invoices.
  3. Manual Entry for Non-E-Invoice Transactions: In cases where e-invoices were not generated for certain transactions, taxpayers can still input the HSN data manually in GSTR-1. This ensures comprehensive reporting while minimizing the manual workload.
  4. Time Savings for B2B Suppliers: Taxpayers primarily engaged in Business-to-Business (B2B) transactions stand to benefit significantly from this enhancement. By automating the importation of HSN data from e-invoices, these taxpayers can save valuable time that would otherwise be spent on manual data entry.
  5. Enhanced Compliance and Accuracy: By reducing manual intervention, the new feature enhances compliance with GST regulations and promotes greater accuracy in HSN reporting. This, in turn, contributes to a smoother and more transparent tax filing process.

Advisory

Advisory: Auto-populate the HSN-wise summary from e-Invoices into Table 12 of GSTR-1 09/04/2024

Dear Taxpayers,

GSTN is pleased to inform that a new feature to auto-populate the HSN-wise summary from e-Invoices into Table 12 of GSTR-1 is now available on the GST portal. This allows for direct auto-drafting of HSN data into Table 12 based on e-Invoice data.

Please note that the HSN-wise summary data auto-populated into Table 12 is intended for your convenience. Please ensure that you reconcile the data with your records before its final submission.

Any discrepancies or errors should be manually corrected or added in Table 12 before final submission.

Thanking you, Team GSTN
