In accordance with Rule 9 of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Rules, 2017, significant updates have been made regarding the verification and approval of registration applications under the GST framework. These updates aim to streamline the process and ensure more robust verification based on risk profiles.

Aadhaar Authentication and Risk Profiling:

  • Under sub-rule (4A) of Rule 8, applicants undergo Aadhaar authentication as a part of their GST registration process.
  • If an applicant is identified for detailed verification based on their risk profile as per Rule 9(aa), their registration application will undergo a more thorough examination.

Processing Timeline:

  • For applicants flagged for detailed verification, the processing of the registration application will be completed within thirty days from the date of submission.

Online Tracking Module Updates:

  • Changes have been made to the online tracking module on the GST Portal to reflect the updated processing status of registration applications.
  • The ‘Track Application Status’ tab now indicates whether a new registration application has been marked for physical verification.

New Feature on GST Portal

  • This new feature, announced in the GSTN’s Advisory dated February 28, 2024, is now fully operational.
  • Applicants can track the physical verification status directly through the GST Portal, providing greater transparency and ease of access to registration status updates.
