TDS Full form is Tax Deducted at Source

In line with the ongoing effort to streamline tax collection in India, the Income Tax Department establishes Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) rates each financial year.

TDS, introduced to gather tax at the very source of income, ensures a steady flow of tax revenue throughout the year. As per this system, a person making specific payments (deductor) withholds a predetermined amount of tax from the recipient’s income (deductee) and deposits it with the government. This deducted tax amount is then credited against the deductee’s final tax liability, minimizing year-end tax burdens and it reflects in the 26AS and AIS against PAN of that person so that they can take credit of TDS while filing Income Tax Return.

Below is Chart of TDS rates applicable for the Financial Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26).

TDS Rates for FY 2024-25 applicable w.e.f 1 April 2024

Taxes shall be deducted at the rates specified in the relevant provisions of the Act or the First Schedule to the Finance Act. However, in case of payment to non-resident persons, the withholding tax rates specified under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements shall also be considered
